Ambassador Jan Tombinski, the Head of the European Union Delegation in Ukraine, says it is necessary to provide openness and transparency to the process of preparation of the draft laws on liberalisation of the visa regime by the EU countries for second reading.
Taking floor at the working meeting dedicated to the draft laws aimed at the implementation of the liberalisation plan by the European Union for Ukraine with the participation of Government members and experts on Friday, the Ambassador said that "the visa-free regime program was agreed by Ukraine and the European Union in 2010." He said a part of the decisions on the implementation of the plan had already been approved therefore currently it is necessary to analyze how quality they were and how much they were in line with set tasks.
The Ambassador also said that consultations with representatives of the public should be open and transparent during the preparation of the draft laws for second reading.
Tombinski said that Ukraine has to do its best to allow the European Commission to report at the end of November how our state had implemented its duties to let Ministers of the European Union take the decision on the visa-free regime in December.
According to the Ambassador, the authors of the draft laws have to be responsible for the preparation of quality decisions, as all Ukrainian citizens need that. He also said that the European side provides respective expert assistance regarding the correspondence of the taken decisions to the European standards.
