Dear compatriots,
Today, for the first time Ukraine officially celebrates the Defender of Ukraine Day.
This day was picked not accidentally. On October 14 Ukraine celebrates a great Christian holiday — Protection of the Virgin Mary, who has been known as the protector of the Ukrainian Cossacks, who personify patriotism and courage being the defenders of the native land.
Now when the military confrontation is unleashed in the east of Ukraine, the word "defender" acquires special, real sense. Thus, heroism and self-devotion of the guys, who left their homes to protect the integrity of our state, deserve the deepest respect and gratitude.
Our people are paying heavy price for our independence… I pay court to all courage warriors, who gave their lives to protect the Ukrainian land from the enemy. Eternal glory to You!
Congratulating our troopers, who are now at the frontline, I would like to express deep support to them. I wish all of you to return home as soon as possible. Remember — not only your families, all Ukrainian people are waiting you back.
I wish you, dear defenders, many years of life. Let the Virgin Mary further protect you and inspire you for new merits in the name of Ukraine!
