The General Committee on Economic Issues, Science, Technology and the Environment of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Adopted the Resolution "Liberalization of Transatlantic Trade" (Additional Paragraph)

07 July 2007, 15:10

The Committee members agreed with the conclusions of the Coordinator of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities concerning the impossibility of implementing stable trade policy without the agreement on free trade and tariff reduction. The parliament members believe that functioning of the free trade zones and investments contracts testifies that cooperation between the trade partners gives the countries more mutual economic benefits, than protectionism. The participants of the meeting called for trade liberalization and elimination of impediments to the market access. The participants also admitted that at present North America and Europe have considerable influence on the conditions of international trade. They emphasized that economic connections between Europe and North America have achieved such a level for the last decades, that their economic development becomes much more mutually connected.

However, admitting that trade impediments limit the acceleration of development and job growth, in spite of such integration, the Parliament Assembly calls on the parliaments of the OSCE participating States for active support of all the initiatives concerning liberalization of Transatlantic trade, including concordance of standards and liberalization of the impediments of regulative character.

The parliament members also call for concluding agreements on Transatlantic cooperation between the members of existing free trade zones, the North American Free Trade Agreement, European Union, European Free Trade Association and Central European Free Trade Agreement.
