Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Head of the Constitutional Commission Volodymyr Groysman hopes all the Commission’s workgroups will present their vision of amendments into the Constitution of Ukraine at the meeting of the Constitutional Commission scheduled for May 13.
At the meeting with European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn on Monday, April 27, Groysman informed about the state of the constitutional reform in Ukraine.
The parties also discussed different aspects of reformation of local self-government.
The Head of the Verkhovna Rada noted that the reform will base on the major principles of the European Charter of Local Self-Government — subsidiarity, ubiquity and financial capacity of communities. Groysman also noted Ukraine requires improvement of constitutional fundamentals of administrative-territory structure.
The Head of the Verkhovna Rada also informed about the state of reformation of judicial system and prosecutor's office, state service, and about the work on the draft law on local election and the plan for legislative support to reforms.
In turn, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn called important the fact that the Ukrainian Parliament is “committed to the process of reforms” and occupies “leading position in the process of constitutional reform.”
