Today, on April 17, 2015, Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Oksana Syroid is on her visit to Strasbourg (France). There she is having a discussion with the Council of Europe on involvement of diversified mechanisms of this international organization to the process of reforms in Ukraine.
The visit started from her participation in the work of the seventh meeting of the Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Commission, where Syroid presented researches of gender aspects of the right to access to court both in Ukraine and other parts of Europe. The presentation was focused on the place and role of Ukrainian women in the system of justice and gender equality in access to profession basing on the level of professionalism and competence.
An important element of the visit was Syroid’s meeting with Director General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Wojciech Sawicki. The parties discussed the state and prospects of implementation of decisions of the PACE destined to help our state in resisting Russia’s aggression. The parties discussed coordination of efforts for the speediest release of Ukrainian officer and Verkhovna Rada deputy of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Association faction Nadiya Savchenko.
On the same day, Syroid met with Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks. The parties paid attention to the protection of human rights in Ukraine, in particular, on the territories occupied by the Russian Federation (Crimea) and some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
The next meeting is planned to take place with Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni. The meeting will be dedicated to the process of reforms in Ukraine and opportunity of effective involvement of expert potential of the Council of Europe in preparation and realization of these reforms. Particular attention is paid to new ambitious Action Plan of the Council of Europe for Ukraine for 2015-2017. It is expected to facilitate the modernization of essential sectors in architecture of Ukraine.
In the frames of the meeting between Syroid and President of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) Gianni Buquicchio, it was informed about the state and prospects of elaboration of the constitutional reform, in particular, the start of the work of the Constitutional Commission in Ukraine. Particular attention was also paid to the reformation of local self-government and decentralization of power in Ukraine.
