At the next meeting of the Constitutional Commission scheduled for April 15, it is planned to approve members of workgroups that will work on elaboration of amendments into the Ukrainian Constitution.

This was said by Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament and head of the Constitutional Commission Volodymyr Groysman at a briefing after the first meeting of the Commission on April 6.

Groysman said that the work of the Commission will be organized following the three trends: human rights, judicial reform, and organization of decentralization of power and local governing.

The Head of the Parliament noted that the constitutional amendments as to the decentralization of power should be approved by the Parliament before autumn, when holding of local election is expected.

The head of the Commission noted that the constitutional reform is being launched to ensure proper non-conflict system of state management in our country. “Ukraine and the Ukrainians need the Commission in order to let everyone understand how live on, what rules to adhere to in the future,” he said adding “our work is aimed at real results.”

At the meeting of a conciliatory council formed of heads of deputy factions, groups and parliamentary committees, the Head of the Verkhovna Rada said that today “is the start for the constitutional process,” — the first meeting of the Constitutional Commission that was established by President Petro Poroshenko took place.

The Commission is formed of specialists in the field of constitutional law, representatives of deputy factions, and international experts.

Groysman expressed confidence that the elaboration of amendments into the Ukrainian Constitution will take place with the participation of “all people's deputies, all factions — both of the factions of the coalition and the factions and people's deputies, who are not part of parliamentary majority,” “as it is high time to reform the country and ensure inevitability of reforms.”
