Standing delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine participates in the 14th winter session of the OSCE PA in Vienna

The task of the 14th winter session of the OSCE PA is to discuss status of implementing resolutions and decisions of the Assembly and to hold debates within three topical committees – on political issues and security; on economic issues, science, technology and environment; on democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues.

According to information of members of the Standing delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, chaired by people's deputy of Ukraine Artur Herasymov and including H.Hopko, O.Belkova, N.Ahafonova, I.Popov, N.Shufrych, and S.Vysotskyi, MPs will also be discussing topical issues of international policy. Particularly, "transnational security in OSCE region: fight against terrorism", "cooperation in the sphere of strengthening energy security and neutralizing environmental and economic challenges in the OSCE region", "human rights of migrants and refugees"; special discussion involving three general committees entitled "OSCE reaction to the crisis in Ukraine" will be held.   

In the First General Committee on political issues and security, the MPs will discuss parliamentary control over armed forces and security forces; ensuring transparency at the national and international levels involving OSCE experts.  

Cooperation in the sphere of strengthening energy security and neutralizing environmental and economic challenges in the OSCE region will be one of the main topics of discussion in the Second committee on economic issues, science, technology and environment, where Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities Halil Yurdakul Yigitguden will give a speech; participants will also grant a hearing to Director of the Secretariat of Energy Community Janez Kopac.

At the meeting of the Third committee on democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues, an open discussion of human rights of migrants and refugees, involving Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration Laura Thompson will be held.

All three general committees will grant a hearing to deputy chairpersons of committees connected with recommendations of the Azerbaijan declaration, and to previous draft speeches and resolutions that will be submitted for consideration at the 24th annual session of OSCE PA, which will be held this year in Helsinki (Republic of Finland).

MPs from 56 countries of Europe and Northern America, as well as representatives of many associated countries, international organizations and Mediterranean partners of OSCE also participate in the session.
