Chairperson of the Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government Serhii Vlasenko met with UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine and UNDP Resident Representative Neal Walker and Senior Local Development Programs Manager at UNDP Oksana Remyha

Serhii Vlasenko informed UNDP representatives about the Committee’s competence in the Parliament of VIII convocation; Committee’s standing regarding key draft legislative acts “that are the first step in implementing local self-government reform and territorial division of power in Ukraine”; legislative package on matters of decentralization; and Committee’s standing in regard to settling the situation in eastern Ukraine, etc.  

Neal Walker said that the issue of supporting decentralization reform is of top priority for UNDP. “There is an urgent need in providing humanitarian assistance, and UN agencies should promptly react by broadening the respective programs,” he stressed.

Oksana Remyha informed that the UNDP Local Development Program is ready to support the Committee in the part of providing expert assessment of the bills and monitoring implementation of the adopted legislative acts; etc.

Chairperson of the Committee reassured participants of the meeting saying that experience of UNDP programs is being actively used in the Committee’s activity and that “it will be a kind of standard in the issues pertaining to elaboration of national legislation.”
