“National Democratic Institute keeps working with the inter-faction deputy union starting from the date of its establishment in 2011. We are ready to continue our cooperation, which we deem to be an important component for establishing true gender equality in Ukraine,” stressed Mary O'Hagan, Director for National Democratic Institute in Ukraine during the meeting dedicated to signing the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding.
It was noted that IFU “Equal Opportunities” and NDI have been actively
working during the past four years on implementation of efficient international
practices to reach gender equality and fulfill Ukraine’s international commitments
on securing gender equality within the framework of Millennium Development
Goals and Agenda of the EU-Ukraine Association. “Within the framework of our cooperation, NDI has repeatedly organized trainings and round table discussions with participation of international experts and famous women for providing the deputy union with professional consultations,” noted MP, co-chairperson of the IFU Olena Kondratiuk.
In her turn, IFU co-chairperson Liliia Hrynevych noted that at the initiative of members IFU in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the eighth convocation, two bills were referred for consideration by the Parliament, one on increasing prestige of parentage.
“We are convinced that our cooperation will be even more efficient and will contribute to reaching gender balance in all spheres of socio-political life,” said the people’s deputy and IFU co-chairperson Aliona Babak.
Having signed the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding, the Parties agreed to continue cooperation directed to protecting women’s rights and establishing equal opportunities for women and men.
