Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Hryhorii Nemyria met with Head of the EU Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Kalman Mizsei

 The Parties discussed the issues of cooperation between the Parliament of Ukraine and the Mission, as well as reforming the legislative base of our country and the situation in Ukraine.

Particularly, it went about reforming legislation in the sphere of human rights and the court system. In this connection, Hryhorii Nemyria informed Kalman Mizsei about the bills on reforming this branch that the Verkhovna Rada considered in the past week.

“Our legislation in this sphere should correspond to the international democratic standards. We should get rid of corruption in the judicial branch due to the legislative changes,” noted Hryhorii Nemyria.  

The Parties discussed also perspective legislative initiatives on implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. It went about implementation of the EU Association Agreement on the part of Ukraine.

Kalman Mizsei expressed readiness to provide the Committee on Human Rights with expert assistance in the course of elaboration of the bills.

“We hope that expert assistance of our Mission will promote Ukraine’s rapprochement with the European standards,” said Kalman Mizsei

Hryhorii Nemyria invited representatives of the Mission to join the Expert Council at the Committee.

Apart from this, the Parties discussed the issue of securing rights and freedoms of internally displaced persons and problems of the temporary occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea. Hryhorii Nemyria informed about the parliamentary hearings in this connection that he has initiated. Hryhorii Nemyria and Kalman Mizsei agreed that the Mission will participate in preparation of these hearings.
