The Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government recommends that the Parliament should adopt as a basis the bill on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine (re reducing the list of state awards, expanding the rights of the awarded persons, and setting limits to presenting certain subjects with state awards)

The bill (Reg. No. 1451) suggests amending the applicable Law “On State Awards of Ukraine” by:  

- prohibiting granting state awards to state officials in connection with which it is suggested excluding the provision on state awards to state officials from the following laws of Ukraine: “On State Service”, “On Diplomatic Service”, “On the Approval of the Disciplinary Statute of the Customs Service of Ukraine”, “On the Approval of the Disciplinary Statute of the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine”, “On the Approval of the Disciplinary Statute of the Civil Protection Service”, and “On the Court System and the Status of Judges”;

- prohibiting presenting state awards on the occasion of memorable dates and jubilees, etc.;

- excluding “honorary distinction” state award by excluding article 10 of the Law of Ukraine “On State Awards of Ukraine”;

- enshrining the right of the awarded persons to refuse from the state award.

In the course of discussion of the bill, the people’s deputies stressed that its adoption will allow restore the importance and social value of state awards in Ukraine.
