Parliament plays a key role in the process of reforming the country. Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman claimed this in the interview to the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency, released on Thursday.

Volodymyr Groysman expressed conviction that the “2020 Strategy”, “Country’s Renewal Plan for 2015-2017” and the Programme of Government Activity should be taken as a basis for reforming the country. “These are three complementary documents that might make up quite a good and qualitative plan for the development of the country and overcoming all of the problems we know and talk about,” he stressed.

Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada noted that “Country’s Renewal Plan for 2015-2017” was elaborated under his chairmanship in the course of work in the Government, and around 300 experts were involved in its discussion. “We have been working together for around two months. There was a joint team of the Cabinet of Ministers and Presidential Administration on the part of Ukraine, led by me, as well as the team of our European partners – the EU Group on the support to Ukraine, headed by Peter Balash,” said Volodymyr Groysman.

According to him, already in January, the Government might announce readiness to hold a donor conference under this plan. “I have referred this document to the committee on reforms. It will be considered by the Committee, and then it might be approved by the Government,” said Volodymyr Groysman, adding that “we will need to implement it, including from the point of view of law-making activity.” “Any reform remains an idea, if it is not voted for in the parliamentary session hall. That is why the Parliament plays a key role here, and my task as the Chair of the Parliament lies in moderating reforms and supporting the best initiatives of both the President, the Government and NGOs,” said Volodymyr Groysman. “Efforts of these three sectors should be united, and the best of these should be implemented. I think this is a complicated task, but a real one. The most important is to believe in it,” he said.
