The Parties set priority trends of bilateral relations and stressed importance of their further deepening, particularly focusing attention on the issues of restoring cooperation within the framework of “interparliamentary friendship group” between the parliaments of Ukraine and Georgia; coordinating actions on implementation of Euro-integrational aspirations of Ukraine and Georgia in relations with the EU on the bilateral and multilateral levels; and determining the necessity to deepen cooperation and coordination of actions within the framework of Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, GUAM and other issues that are of common interest.
Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine informed the Committee Chair about the internal political situation in the country; expressed deep concern in connection with the use of force against Ukrainian civilians; condemned annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and supported aspiration of Ukrainian people to become full members of the European family.
Separate attention was attached to the development of cooperation on the way to integration with the European structures. Cooperation of parliamentarians at the level of committees on foreign affairs and within the framework of international institutions, particularly, the UN Security Council will promote a more efficient mutual support of standings and interests of both states, noted Georgian Ambassador.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine suggested holding a joint meeting involving members of foreign affairs committees, members of the respective interparliamentary friendship groups and leaders of delegations of the Council of Europe, OSCE and NATO of both countries in January 2015, and discuss key topics pertaining to good-neighborly relations.
