The Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy scrutinized the draft law on amendments to several laws of Ukraine on Public Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine and the bill on the Provision regarding Community Council on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy

These issues were discussed during the extraordinary meeting of the Committee, held on December 18.

Having discussed the draft law on amendments to several laws of Ukraine on Public Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine (Reg. No. 1357), parliamentarians decided to recommend the Verkhovna Rada adopt it as a basis by the majority of votes, following the results of its consideration in the first reading. By this decision, the Committee also recommended the Verkhovna Rada cut in half time period for submission and consideration of remarks and suggestions to the bill on the part of legislative initiative and, taking into account these remarks and suggestions, refer the document for consideration by the Parliament in the second reading.

The Committee also granted a hearing to information of the Committee Chair regarding further approval of the Provision on Community Council on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy. Following the results of discussion, it was decided to make proposals to this document. The people’s deputies unanimously stood for final adoption of the abovementioned decision during the nearest meeting of the Committee. 

On the initiative of Committee’s members, the issue of participation of MPs in the meetings of the working group on preparation of amendments to legislation in connection with establishment of state overseas channel was brought up for discussion.  

Participants of discussion attached attention to the discussion of fundamentals of rules of procedure of Committee’s further activity, as well as to the issue of participation of Committee’s members in further refinement of the transitional draft law on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine regarding strengthening guarantees of legal professional activity of journalists (Reg. No. 0924), referred by the people’s deputy Valerii Karpuntsov.
