Ukrainian MPs, Chairperson of the Police Trade Union of the Netherlands Gerrit van de Kamp and employee of European Police Union for International Affairs Jacqueline Hirt, and Chairperson of the Trade Union of certified workers of internal affairs bodies of Ukraine Anatolii Onyshchuk participated in the meeting.
Chairperson of the Committee Andrii Kozhemiakin presented the activity of the Committee and its subcommittees to the guests and emphasized high professional level of people's deputies-members of the Committee.
A.Kozhemiakin claimed that now society is on the verge of reforming the country's law-enforcement system. "Both militia workers and the Ukrainian society are waiting for this reform", he stressed. In his words, the Committee is ready to consider the respective bill, elaborate it, and submit for consideration of the Parliament.
People's deputy Viktor Korol stressed "We have a personnel crisis. The Committee raised the issue on responsibility of not separate persons but of the whole system which the former president managed to build over a short period of time. We are not afraid to admit this. We want to reform the whole system in a way which will restore the society's respect to militia workers and create for them the level of social protection equal to that in European countries".
The Committee members thanked the representatives of the European Police Union for assistance in rehabilitation of law-enforcement workers who were injured in the ATO area and expressed hope for further assistance.
Chairperson of the Police Trade Union of the Netherlands Gerrit van de Kamp spoke about the activity of the Union and about cooperation with the Trade Union of certified workers of internal affairs bodies in providing assistance to militia workers who were injured in the ATO area. He also spoke about expanding this assistance – he mentioned that the European Union is actively lobbying in the European Parliament the issue on providing vehicles and equipment for rehabilitation centres.
On the issue of reforming the law-enforcement system in Ukraine, Gerrit van de Kamp claimed that there are a lot of ways of reforming the system in different countries. In his words, Ukrainians have to choose the most acceptable model for them; and the European Police Union is ready to provide help in its implementation and share its experience.
During the meeting, the Committee members and representatives of the European Police Union spoke in favour of deepening cooperation on legislative support of the reform and organization of rehabilitation abroad of militia workers-members of the Trade Union who received gunshot wounds during the protest actions in Kyiv in November 2013-December 2014 and during the ATO in the East of Ukraine.
