The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with a delegation from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) led by its Secretary-General, Mathias Cormann.
During the session with OECD's representatives, Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized that the launch of the OECD Programme for Ukraine, aimed at supporting reforms in the country, marks a critically important stage in the development of bilateral relations. According to him, Ukraine is already actively engaged within the framework of this programme, and the pace, depth of involvement, and speed of progress — particularly on the part of Parliament — deserve positive recognition.
The First Deputy Speaker outlined that the Parliamentary component plays an essential role in the realization of initiatives within the Program. A significant part of the work has already been accomplished — particularly in the area of accession to the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention.
Oleksandr Korniienko also expressed confidence that the upcoming stages will enable even greater progress — both within the OECD Programme and along the broader integration track, which is closely interconnected with it.
«We value the unwavering support of our country and the fruitful cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, as well as the active engagement within the Global Parliamentary Network. We look forward to continuing this constructive dialogue,» stated Oleksandr Korniienko.
According to the First Deputy Speaker, Ukraine is currently an associate member and participant in 17 OECD bodies and is successfully fulfilling the requirements of the Country Programme. «We have already joined 37 OECD legal instruments. Our ambitious goal is to join 19 more,» he emphasized.
It was noted that Ukraine is interested in expanding cooperation with the OECD on its path toward full membership. «We also strive to accelerate the process of joining the Organization. We are working at all levels to achieve this goal,» Oleksandr Korniienko concluded.
The First Deputy Speaker thanked the OECD delegation for their visit, fruitful cooperation, and support for Ukraine in implementing high standards of public governance, economic growth, and European integration.
