First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko attended the high-level event "OECD Anti-Bribery Convention: An Important Milestone of Reforms on Ukraine's Path to EU Integration," dedicated to completing Ukraine's accession process to the Convention and further deepening cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
During his address, Oleksandr Korniyenko emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for Ukraine's economic growth and post-war recovery.
"Cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is of vital importance for Ukraine's economic growth and its post-war recovery, as transparency, good governance, and economic development lie at the core of the Organisation's work. I would like to make special mention of our cooperation with SIGMA, which is one of our key partners in implementing good governance practices," he noted.
The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine paid special attention to the legislative work required to complete Ukraine's accession to the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions.
"The relevant draft law is currently at the second reading stage, and my colleagues and I are working to secure the necessary support for its final adoption. Completing this work is essential so that anti-corruption bodies, particularly the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), gain additional tools to combat bribery in international business transactions," he emphasized.
Oleksandr Korniyenko also acknowledged the contributions of parliamentary committees and international partners in preparing the required legislative solutions.
"I thank the Committee on Law Enforcement and the Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy for their thorough work, expert proposals, and joint efforts in preparing these decisions. My gratitude goes to the OECD team, Julia Fromholz, Michał Fałenczyk, and all our international partners supporting Ukraine's alignment with the Organisation's standards. We continue to work together on the legislative solutions needed for our state's further integration and recovery," the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada concluded.
