Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, delivered a welcoming speech at the International Forum “Ecology and Peace”, organised by the National Technical University of Ukraine “Ihor Sikorskyi Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

“The aggressor is wreaking havoc and destruction – attacking important facilities, causing ecocide and danger to the whole world,” the First Vice Speaker stressed.

He noted that Ukraine wants peace most of all and has proposed a real tool for achieving it, including ten points, including energy and nuclear safety, – the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

At the same time, he said, the russian federation remains an anti-environmental dictatorship. In particular, russia demonstrates this through threats to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam and shelling of other hydroelectric power plants, mining of territories, and finally, the seizure of Crimea, which started the war: “in ten years, the russian federation has turned the most picturesque peninsula, an ecological natural pearl of the Black Sea, into a militarised base.”

“We must draw attention to this aspect on all international platforms as well – to act, to stop the madness, to continue to achieve our goals,” Oleksandr Korniienko stressed, noting that it is necessary to preserve peace and establish peace for future generations. He said that, for its part, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is also actively promoting this issue through its delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where a number of declarations on environmental issues have already been adopted thanks to Ukrainian representatives.
