Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, joined the conference "The Role of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the Path to Ukraine's Full Membership in the European Union".

"Ukraine's accession to the European Union is one of the most anticipated processes in society. For the most part, it is technical and practical — even governmental and practical. But from time to time, it will be in the hall of the Parliament of Ukraine that the final decision will be made," Oleksandr Korniienko stressed first of all.

The First Deputy Speaker noted that the Ukrainian MPs have demonstrated that they are capable as a political system and can find consensus. "The path to candidacy and accession is a kind of school on how to be a member of the European Union," he stressed, adding that there are many myths around among society and politicians. That is why it is important and necessary to communicate how this will actually work and influence all areas: "And the role of the Parliament, which is constantly in contact with people, is crucial."

At the same time, Oleksandr Korniienko stressed that there is a lot of work to be done. He called for unity around it — "to move together in all directions and achieve the necessary results on this track".

"All the decisions we have already made are thanks to Ukrainians who are fighting and repelling aggression, heroically resisting the enemy and demonstrating an incredible thirst for justice and building a strong state in a democratic community," the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said in conclusion.

For reference. The event was organised with the participation of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the European Union, Internews Ukraine and International IDEA.
