On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Lithuania's membership in NATO, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko joined the thematic plenary session of the Seimas of Lithuania initiated by the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on National Security and Defence online with a greeting.

“This event was really important not only for the security and development of Lithuania, as a friendly country for us, but also for the entire Eastern flank of NATO,” the First Vice Speaker stressed, noting that it is very important to support further eastward expansion of the Alliance, in particular, to provide Ukraine with clear wording at the Summit in Washington.

Oleksandr Korniienko stressed that the Ukrainian people continue to heroically repel russian aggression, defending the entire civilised democratic world: “This is impossible without the courage of our soldiers. However, it would be difficult without a clear position and support of our allies, in particular Lithuania.”

At the same time, he noted that Ukraine greatly appreciates Lithuania's steadfast and consistent position in support of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration, in particular, its readiness to continue active cooperation to bring our country closer to NATO membership.

Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his gratitude to the Seimas of Lithuania for its strong support of Ukraine on its path to the EU and NATO, and to the Lithuanian people for their support of Ukrainians.

He also welcomed Lithuania's leadership in consolidating and coordinating current and future assistance to Ukraine, including humanitarian and military: “We thank the Seimas, the Government of Lithuania and the entire European Union, all the countries that provide military support to Ukraine.”

“There is not a single area in which Ukraine would not feel the determination of partners who meet our long-term needs. We greatly appreciate Lithuania's support and look forward to the final victory,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine concluded.
