“This visit, as well as the assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine provided by Bulgaria, is extremely important for us,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed first of all.
“Ukraine continues to fight and wants to win this war, but we understand that we can only do it together with our partners and friends,” he said.
Ruslan Stefanchuk said that since June 2023, the Bulgarian Parliament has adopted seven decisions on various types of assistance to Ukraine. He also expressed hope that the Bulgarian Government has the capacity for the next tranches of assistance: “It is important to allocate and deliver new packages of weapons and equipment as soon as possible.”
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked Bulgaria for supporting Ukraine's path to the European Union, noting that support on the path to NATO membership is also extremely important. “Today Ukraine is demonstrating to the whole world what a NATO army should look like. Ukraine's accession to NATO will only strengthen the Alliance,” he said, expressing hope for good decisions during the upcoming Washington Summit.
“Ukraine highly appreciates Bulgaria's participation in the implementation of the Peace Formula,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed, noting that the right way out of this war can only be based on the principles contained in this Formula.
In addition, he thanked for the decision to recognise the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people: “It was an act of solidarity with the historical tragedy of the Ukrainian people.”
Finally, the parties discussed the issue of bringing the russian regime to international legal responsibility. “A country that has violated international law must be held accountable in accordance with the canons of international law,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
