The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk and the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Medical Workers. The ceremony was also attended by the Chairman of the Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance Mykhailo Radutskyi, MPs of Ukraine, government officials, and representatives of the medical community.

In his greeting speech, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, first of all, thanked all the medical professionals who work both on the front line and in the rear, providing protection, rehabilitation, support to defenders and civilians.

He also reminded that today, for the first time, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Medical Workers on a different date than it has always done.

“This is because Ukraine has its own way and its own orientation, which clearly follows the national traditions and traditions of the Christian world. This today best emphasises all the features of Ukrainians. Because it is Ukrainians who are on the frontline today, fighting for their right for a better future. And undoubtedly, our doctors are among those who are there every second, providing their support and assistance,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

At the same time, he stressed that today Ukraine also honours the memory of all doctors who, in the performance of their professional duty, laid down the most valuable thing – their lives.

“Memory is an important foundation that makes us a great nation because we remember our great history. We live in a difficult present, but together we are building our bright tomorrow, where we will always remember the feat of those who saved the lives of others at the cost of their own,” the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament said.

In his turn, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko also expressed his deep respect and gratitude to all those who are holding the difficult medical frontline today: “The medical profession is about great sacrifice. Every day, employees risk their lives for the sake of others. And we are losing our medical heroes in this fierce war of russia against Ukraine. Eternal memory and honour to all!”

On the occasion of the Day of Medical Workers, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine presented civilian and military medics with the awards of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for their services to the Ukrainian people.

Also, in honour of the Ukrainian doctors who died as a result of the full-scale aggression of the russian federation while performing their professional duties, the participants of the event unveiled a memorial wall built at the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance.
