The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk together with the President of PACE Theodoros Rousopoulos, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić and Ukrainian delegates took part in the opening of the exhibition of Mariia Pryimachenko's works in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe –“Mariia’s Dreams: A Journey through Ukrainian Identity”, dedicated to the struggle for independence, democracy and the future in Europe.
The works provide a unique perspective on Ukrainian art and open up a new look at its cultural significance, offering a deeper understanding of Ukraine's artistic heritage.
In total, the exhibition features ten iconic works by the artist. The exhibition will run in PACE from 15 to 17 April.
“For every Ukrainian, Mariia Pryimachenko's work is a ticket to childhood. All the images she has created are what is in the heart of each of us, they are memories of the peaceful life of our Ukraine, of the peace that has always been a characteristic feature of every Ukrainian and of the peace that will certainly come,” said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk. He also noted that the paintings feature images that send signals to the whole world about the invincibility of the people of Ukraine: “Art is the best language we can use to communicate, overcoming all the barriers that exist between our peoples and nations.”
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed his gratitude for the organisation of the exhibition, for the support and unwavering faith in the unbreakable Ukrainian spirit.
The Head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Mariia Mezentseva said: “Maria's Dreams is an exhibition about the power of love, about being sincere and humane, about resilience and strength, which are the core of the Ukrainian national identity. It is this identity that the enemy is trying to destroy, but it will not succeed. This exhibition is a bridge to the resolution on cultural identity that PACE will vote on in June.”
For his part, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos, said that he was honoured to take part in the opening of the exhibition of works by Ukrainian artist Mariia Pryimachenko, as her works are associated with the character of Ukrainians, with the spirit of resilience and resistance.
“Generations of Ukrainians, including Mariia Pryimachenko’s grandson, took up arms after 24 February to defend their Ukrainian identity. She became a symbol when she was alive and continues to represent Ukraine today,” he stressed.
