The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann and its representatives.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the establishment and activities of the Parliamentary Coordination Group on Cooperation with the OECD in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which will be headed by Oleksandr Korniienko.
According to him, the Group of “Friends of the OECD” will help create political momentum around legislative initiatives and help the Organisation gain a deeper understanding of parliamentary decisions related to the implementation of the Programme.
“The four-year programme was launched by the OECD and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and aims to support the reform, recovery and reconstruction agenda in Ukraine, as well as to realise Ukraine's ambitions to join the Organisation and the European Union,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.
In conclusion, he assured of his readiness for all tasks and challenges and thanked for the dialogue.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Ukrainian Parliament: the Chair of the Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy Anastasiia Radina, the Chair of the Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy Danylo Hetmantsev, the First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the Deputy Chair of the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure Volodymyr Kreidenko, the Deputy Chair of the Committee on Economic Development Oleksii Movchan, Secretary of the Committee on Budget Volodymyr Tsabal, Vitalii Bezhin, a member of the Committee on the Organisation of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning, and Maksym Khlapuk, a member of the Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities.
For reference. On 7 June 2023, the OECD and the Government of Ukraine launched a four-year programme (the "Programme") to support Ukraine's reform, recovery and reconstruction agenda, as well as Ukraine's ambitions to join the OECD and the European Union.
The programme was signed in Paris at the OECD Ministerial Council (MC) by OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann and in Kyiv by the Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The programme was developed in cooperation with the Government of Ukraine and reflects its priorities to strengthen institutions and governance, continue to fight corruption, attract private sector investment, and lay the foundations for long-term prosperity and opportunity for the country's people.
It will help bring Ukraine closer to OECD standards and best practices and ultimately facilitate Ukraine's accession to the EU.
