“Ukraine continues to create an important infrastructure for recovery, in particular, laws and mechanisms that are a serious foundation for quick and effective decisions after our victory,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko said at the Third Forum on Recovery of Zhytomyr Region.

At the same time, he noted that there are already concrete results of reconstruction – and Zhytomyr region is an example of this, where more than one reconstruction project has been implemented with the support of the Republic of Estonia: “And we need to scale up the relevant experience across the country.”

In addition, during his speech at the first panel of the event “Rebuilding Ukraine: the strategic role of partners”, Oleksandr Korniienko also focused on the economic component of the Ukraine Facility programme. He noted that this is a significant step for our country in the context of reforms: “Each euro will be accompanied by serious requirements for raising to European standards.” “Everyone needs to realise that the whole country is joining the European Union – every community, amalgamated territorial community and city needs to understand the whole process, fulfil tasks and respond to challenges,” said the First Vice Speaker.

Moreover, he said that the entire recovery system should work interdependently and jointly, and that business has a major role to play in this: “Every hryvnia from taxes is directed to our brave soldiers of the Defence Forces who are now in the trenches defending Ukraine.” Oleksandr Korniienko stressed that business, in particular large companies, make a significant contribution to defence capability by paying taxes and donating large amounts to charity and supporting initiatives such as the Recovery Forum and the entire recovery process.

In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the partners for their help and support, as well as to the people who work here on the ground to achieve powerful results.

For reference. The event was organised with the participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, BGV group, the Embassy of Portugal in Ukraine, and the Embassy of Estonia in Ukraine.
