A memorial to the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk (January 10, 1934 – May 10, 2022) was unveiled at Baikove Cemetery.

As the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine emphasized, this Memorial commemorates “a true statesman of Ukraine, a man who changed the course of history, whose signature is on the act of collapse of the soviet union and creation of the Ukrainian state,” the founding father of the revived Ukrainian state, under whose direct leadership the Declaration of State Sovereignty was adopted, and later the Act of Independence.

“Leonid Kravchuk was an example of political wisdom, true Ukrainianness and great patriotism,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, emphasizing that by remembering the past and its heroes, Ukraine will definitely have a future.

Leonid Kravchuk was the first Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from August 24, 1991, to December 5, 1991. On December 5, 1991, Leonid Kravchuk became the first President of independent Ukraine and served in this position until July 19, 1994.
