“An important day in the Ukrainian Parliament.

First of all, it is important for Ukraine's European integration! The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has once again confirmed that it acts quickly and efficiently when it comes to the strategic choice of the people of Ukraine,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine said.

He expressed his belief that today’s decisions of the Parliament of Ukraine will be a powerful argument for the leaders of the EU member states who will meet on 14-15 December 2023 at the European Council and consider the opening of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.

In particular, on Friday, 8 December, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the following decisions:

IN GENERAL:

No. 10203-1 – amended the Law of Ukraine "On the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine" to strengthen the institutional capacity of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. In particular, it is proposed to increase the maximum number of NABU staff and increase the number of senior staff.

No. 10262 – amended the Law of Ukraine "On Prevention of Corruption" to bring certain provisions in line with the conclusions of the European Commission on Ukraine. The law cancels restrictions on the NACP's powers to verify the assets of civil servants who have already been verified and to verify the property acquired by declarants before their appointment to a civil service position.

No. 10288-1 – amended certain laws of Ukraine to take into account the expert opinion of the Council of Europe and its bodies on the rights of national minorities (communities) in certain areas. The act legislates the exercise of rights and freedoms of persons belonging to national minorities (communities) in accordance with the provisions of international documents. The document offers private higher education institutions the right to freely choose the language of instruction, which is an official language of the EU, except for the language of the aggressor state. The innovations do not apply to russian as an aggressor language indefinitely;

No. 10060 – amended the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and other legislative acts of Ukraine to strengthen the independence of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. The document strengthens the autonomous status of the SAP, which becomes independent of the Prosecutor General's Office;

No. 10289 – amended certain legislative acts of Ukraine to ensure the construction and operation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery. The law simplifies the licensing system, including the allocation of land plots for the construction of the National Military Memorial Cemetery.
