Oleksandr Korniyenko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, congratulated Ukrainians on the Day of Ukrainian Statehood on the air of the national telethon "UA Together".
He emphasized that the celebration of such a holiday at the state level has been maturing in society for a long time, and with the beginning of the war with russia in 2014, it became especially relevant, despite the enemy's efforts to destroy and degrade the importance of Ukrainian statehood.
"There were many insinuations on the part of the russian federation to question our thousand-year history of statehood. The fact that on this land there were various states, recognized by the whole world, which took an active part in foreign policy, starting from the time of Kyivan Rus, then the Cossack State, our state-building processes in the 20s of the 20th century. This discourse had to turn into something special," noted the First Vice-Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and added that this was preceded by active discussions with people's deputies, the leadership of the Parliament, scientists, representatives of cultural circles, and the Institute of National Remembrance.
According to him, the result of such joint work was the initiation last year by the President of Ukraine of the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, which Ukraine is celebrating today for the first time in its history.
"Unfortunately, in the conditions in which we are now – the 155th day of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation – this holiday is met with arms in hand by the whole country, first of all - by our military at the frontiers of our defense. We are now protecting statehood in the most authentic way possible," Oleksandr Korniyenko stressed.
Finally, he expressed confidence that the holiday will become national, like the main holidays of the country — Constitution Day or Independence Day.
"The Day of Ukrainian Statehood is more about forming the correct perception of modern Ukrainian statehood. About the fact that our state has taken place, it exists, it exists, it defends itself — it is united and sovereign," First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko emphasized.
