Oleksandr Korniyenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Co-Chair of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council (UNIC), took part in an extraordinary meeting of this organization, which took place today in Lviv.

This was the first extraordinary UNIC meeting, which has been postponed for a long time due to security conditions, but it is also very important in the run-up to the forthcoming spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Vilnius.

"We talked about the agenda that we will work on together with all our colleagues at this Assembly.

This is a matter of comprehensive support for Ukraine and its increase.  These are important issues of the impact of the war on NATO countries and on world processes, food and energy security.  The work will also focus on military, military-technical cooperation with NATO countries and further integration of the Armed Forces into the parameters of NATO countries," said Oleksandr Korniyenko and thanked all partners, each country for military and humanitarian support and especially for supporting Ukrainian refugees.

At the same time, he emphasized that victory in this war is possible only through solidarity and unity of the whole world, and Putin can be defeated only by joint efforts.

"It's a common understanding, total confidence.  Ukraine is fighting not just for its land, for its life.  We are fighting for democracy, security, for opportunities for the whole of Europe," said the First Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.

In his turn, the co-chair of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council, Member of the Polish Parliament Michal Scherba, noted that representatives of 13 delegations from NATO member states were present to express solidarity and support for Ukraine and the democratically elected President of Ukraine.

"We emphasized the courage and determination with which the Ukrainian people are fighting against Russian aggression.  Our parliaments have played an extremely important role in mobilizing support for Ukraine.  First of all, we believe that our states should continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine and share intelligence.  We must continue to put pressure on Russia for it to withdraw its troops from Ukraine and end this war," said Michal Scherba, adding that the world must isolate Russia politically and economically, including sanctions on gas, oil and energy.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also announced the plans of the Ukrainian delegation at the spring session of the NATO PA in Vilnius and expressed hope that the relevant Declaration of Support for Ukraine would be adopted at these meetings.
