During his working visit, Oleksandr Korniyenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, held a meeting with Mart Volmer, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.

Oleksandr Korniyenko said that the urgent and priority issue for discussion at the meeting was the status of Ukraine's candidacy for membership in the European Union.
"Future membership in the European Union is an aspiration that unites all of Ukraine.  We have the will and resilience to resist Russia.  We have the faith and desire to be full members of the European family," said Oleksandr Korniyenko, adding that Ukraine is grateful to Estonia - its true friend - for the support along the way.

For his part, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Mart Volmer assured that Estonia will contribute to Ukraine's aspirations to the European Union by negotiating with countries that are "not very inclined" to approve the issue.

On top of that, the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament noted that in June, the European Council would decide the future status of Ukraine as a candidate for membership in the European Union.
"We hope that this decision will be a positive one.  After all, we are still fighting for democratic European values, both today and since the first days of the war.  And there probably is no other nation that has paid such a high price for its European aspirations", emohasized the First Deputy Speaker of the  Parliament Oleksandr Korniyenko.
