During her working visit, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratyuk met with President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits.
"On behalf of millions of Ukrainians, the President of Ukraine and the Speaker of Parliament, I thank you for the constant and consistent support of Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor. We will always remember the support of the great and friendly Latvian people," Olena Kondratyuk said.
She also noted that friendly and sister Latvia has already done a lot and continues to do everything possible to support Ukraine and Ukrainians who have found temporary refuge in the country, fleeing the war. "In Latvia, our citizens are treated as their own and accepted with an open heart," the Vice Speaker added.
"We appreciate the fact that both on May 9, Latvia's Day of Remembrance of Ukrainians killed by the russians in their aggression and on Europe Day, you, as President of Latvia, raised the Flag of Ukraine, which showed great and sincere solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom. and the freedom of the whole of Europe," said the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
The Vice Speaker also stressed that Ukraine appreciates Latvia's contribution to the process of Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union and the Latvian President's personal address to European leaders with a request to grant Ukraine the candidate status as soon as possible.
Olena Kondratyuk also addressed the President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits with a request to support Ukraine's acquisition of EU candidate status.
In turn, Elgis Levits stressed that he pays a lot of attention to the issues of humanitarian aid to Ukrainians in Latvia and the development of legal mechanisms for internationally bringing russian criminals to justice.
The parties also touched upon the work of the Ukrainian Parliament during the war.
"Today, in fact, there are no different factions and groups in the Ukrainian Parliament. Today we have all become one party of Ukraine, we are working for the victory and accelerated membership of Ukraine in the EU, "said Olena Kondratyuk, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
