Ruslan Stefanchuk: Recognition of russia as a sponsor of terrorism will enable the strengthening of international sanctions against it

The draft resolution "On the Address of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States Congress on Recognition of the russian federation as a Sponsor of Terrorism" has been registered in the Parliament of Ukraine.

According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, one of the initiators of the draft resolution, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, there is more than enough evidence of russia's compliance with the status of a state sponsor of terrorism.

These are atrocities in Irpin, Bucha, Mariupol and other cities of Ukraine. This is the use of prohibited weapons by russia, in particular, the chemical one. This is the hostage-taking and abduction of civilians. This is constant nuclear terror. This is the support of the terrorist organizations LNR and DNR. These include the poisoning of the Skrypal family, the downing of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, and so on. And this list is likely to swell up.

"Year after year, evil has only gained momentum. History is proof of this. So we just can't procrastinate. We have to act. We must isolate terrorists from the civilised world by all possible means. Recognition of russia as a sponsor of terrorism will let international sanctions against it strengthen and is going to consolidate the world around Ukraine," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

According to him, the Verkhovna Rada, in particular, calls on the US Congress to strengthen sanctions against russia over and over again and against the states cooperating with russia; to impose sanctions against government and business circles, political parties of the russian federation, who support the war; to recognize the so-called LNR, and DNR, as well as the russian armed forces as terrorist organisations.

In its address to the US Congress, the Ukrainian Parliament also calls for support for initiatives to provide defence, sanctions, financial and humanitarian support to Ukraine.

"Parliament and the entire Ukrainian people are counting on the support of the United States," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
