Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Romanian delegation headed by Prime Minister Nicolae Ionel Ciuca to discuss issues of further military assistance to Ukraine, economic security and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
According to him, this visit of the Romanian delegation to Ukraine is a most timely manifestation of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

“Decisive for Ukraine is the support of our friends not only at the level of political statements but also at the level of personal meetings between the leadership of the parliaments of our countries. So I would like to thank you for the support and assistance coming to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people from the Romanian side,” Ruslan Stefanchuk noted.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine added that this includes support for the pressure of sanctions on the rf, humanitarian aid to Ukraine, fraternal treatment of Ukrainians who have found temporary refuge in Romania, and the operation of a hub on its territory to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

“No less important is the active role of Romania within the framework of international processes to condemn and hold the russian side accountable for crimes against humanity and acts of genocide,” emphasized Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that cooperation with Romania should be deepened in terms of transferring heavy military weapons to Ukraine and supporting Ukrainian exports. Ruslan Stefanchuk also counts on the active participation of Romania in the processes of post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

The Speaker of the Parliament thanked Romania for acceding to the joint appeal of international partners to the International Criminal Court regarding the investigation of the crimes of genocide.

He recalled the adoption of the Resolution “On the Statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ‘On the Commission of Genocide in Ukraine by the Russian Federation’” and asked Romania to take the necessary measures at the parliamentary level to recognize the actions of the russian side against Ukraine as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people.

“Ukraine highly appreciates and will never forget the assistance it received from the fraternal peoples… After our communication, I was once again convinced that we are playing for the team of the forces of light. Today the world has lost colors: there are the light color and the dark color. Those who support Ukraine and the struggle of the Ukrainian people for democratic values are the Ukrainians’ friends forever. The Ukrainians know how to repel an aggressor and they appreciate the support they received at the most difficult time,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
In turn, the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ionel Ciuca noted that at all levels, starting with Romania’s President, Parliament, Government, even ordinary citizens – everyone is in solidarity with the Ukrainians, who are going through hard times because of the occupation. He condemned the killings and added that those guilty must be held accountable. According to him, “russia is doing everything possible to redraw the maps of Europe and the world and disregards the international rules”.

He emphasized that from the beginning of the war Romania had been helping refugees from Ukraine: it provided them with housing, medical services, the right to work, the opportunity to study in Romanian schools. Besides, the Romanian side provides support to Ukrainian exports.
According to the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania Marcel Ciolacu, the solidarity of the Romanian people should also be strengthened at the level of minorities in Ukraine and Romania.
