During the working visit and participation in the summit of women speakers of the EU countries, the Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada got acquainted with the work of border checkpoints and assistance centres for the Ukrainians who have received temporary protection in the European Union.

"I am sincerely grateful to all the sister countries of the EU, which provide assistance to our citizens - women and children - and share with us their feelings for the people whose fate has been forever changed by the russian invasion," said Olena Kondratyuk.

She also noted that she greatly appreciates the women's leadership, which was manifested at the level of the leadership of the parliaments of the countries participating in the EU summit, and the real assistance provided to the Ukrainians abroad, 90% of which are women and children.

"We understand that this assistance seems to come from the countries, but it is primarily the assistance from the people and local authorities, who with an open heart welcomed our citizens fleeing the war. What I saw while talking to our refugees in many Polish cities are the challenges in children's education, in medicine, in the employment of our women and in financial assistance," said the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

She also thanked the 26 EU countries that have implemented the EU directive on the temporary protection of the Ukrainians in national law: "It is very important to place the right emphasis. We do not call our people abroad refugees, but the citizens of Ukraine who are temporarily staying on the territory of our friendly EU countries."

"But we also need to talk openly about the problems. I talked to our Ukrainian women in Krakow, Przemysl, Lublin, Warsaw and Holm. Yes, they received PESEL and went through all the registration procedures," the Vice Speaker said, adding that they however did not receive financial assistance. There is a delay in providing it, which is obviously due to the receipt of funds from the EU. Therefore, first of all, it is necessary to accelerate the allocation of financial take-home assistance to our citizens for themselves and for their children, who are temporarily protected by the EU.

"I have also asked the women speakers and vice-speakers of the EU parliaments in the framework of parliamentary diplomacy to adopt separate resolutions in support of the accelerated acquisition of Ukraine's membership in the European Union. This is an extremely important goal for us today. It is as important as the arms supplies," said Olena Kondratyuk, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
