The PACE's principled position in condemning russia's aggression against Ukraine is extremely important. This was stated by Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during a meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Tiny Kox in Lviv.

"Given the atrocities of the russian occupation forces in Ukrainian cities, including Bucha and Irpin, I consider it necessary to organise a PACE mission to establish and collect facts in order to document all crimes committed by russia in connection with gross human rights violations. Information about these crimes will be further used against russia in international courts," Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine hopes for the assistance of the PACE in bringing the aggressor to justice for the crimes committed in Ukraine and providing assistance to the victims of the russian aggression. In addition, Ruslan Stefanchuk expects the full implementation of the provisions of the Assembly's decision to exclude russia from the Council of Europe.

"We hope that the members of parliaments of the member states of the Council of Europe will reconsider their policy towards russia and take steps to force russia to return to civilised methods of resolving disputes.  We must remember that the lack of respect for human rights and democratic standards has turned russia into an aggressor state and an invader." Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine hopes that other bodies of the Council of Europe will be able to assess the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine on the ongoing basis. He also reminded that strengthening military support for Ukraine, providing humanitarian aid and imposing the toughest sanctions against russia is on the agenda.
