First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko took part in the information marathon.

Lithuania and Latvia call for Ukraine to be granted EU candidate status, particularly under the accelerated procedure discussed at the Lublin Triangle meeting. Touching upon the issue of Ukraine’s prospects in the near future to become a member of the EU, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that now the ball is completely in European colleagues' court.

"This is not just our homework, given the sacrifices Ukraine has already made and continues to make to defend European values ??in their concentrated absolute form - this is freedom, this is choice, this is democracy, this is independence," said the First Vice-Speaker.

As he said, according to opinion polls, 75% of European citizens are in favor of Ukraine's accession to the EU, so the bureaucracy of some countries will be forced to respond to the will of voters.

"I think we will move faster, and I agree with the position of Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba that we had passed the stage when there were talks" whether to take us or not to take us to the EU at all," said the First Vice-Speaker.

Oleksandr Korniienko also noted that active work is underway to close the sky over Ukraine. According to him, the Parliament of Estonia, a NATO country, was the first to call on NATO countries to close the sky over Ukraine.

"Diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the leadership of the Parliament have worked effectively in this direction. We understand that Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland are also our friends in the issue of parliamentary support for closing the sky because there is an understanding that putin will not stop in Ukraine, that this is World War III," he said.

Referring to the parliamentary work, Oleksandr Kornienko noted that the Verkhovna Rada will first consider the issue of amending the country's budget and tax system.
"The budget will be revised, and defense spending will increase. We have good news for our business, which is trying to recover from the shock and it will be possible to do it much faster because at the next meeting of the Verkhovna Rada we will vote for a very serious tax reform that will allow most Ukrainian companies to pay a single 2% tax," specified Oleksandr Korniienko.
