Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with the Lithuanian delegation headed by Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Paulus Saudargas.

“For us, every such meeting, every manifestation of solidarity with the Ukrainian people in times of threat of large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine is extremely valuable. This restrains the aggressor, calms the situation inside the country, gives more confidence to investors and international partners of our country,” Olena Kondratiuk stressed.

In turn, Paulus Saudargas assured that Lithuania is determined to continue to support Ukraine's accession to NATO and provide all possible support to protect Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity.

Olena Kondratiuk also informed the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas about the Verkhovna Rada's approval of appeals to the UN, the European Parliament, governments, parliaments and interparliamentary assemblies to condemn the escalation and not to recognize illegal formations in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.

“I appeal to you to adopt similar appeals at the level of the Seimas of Lithuania,” said the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.

Representatives of the Lithuanian delegation assured that the Lithuanian Parliament will prepare and consider a relevant resolution in support of Ukraine in the near future.

The parties also coordinated joint efforts to work within the framework of the Crimea Platform established in the Lithuanian Parliament on energy security, sanctions pressure on Russia and State Duma deputies, who approved a petition to recognize the independence of the so-called ‘DPR’ and ‘LPR’.

“This is a shameful decision and nothing more than another act of aggression against Ukraine and Russia's actual withdrawal from the Minsk process,” Olena Kondratiuk said during the meeting.
