Ukraine is fighting not only for itself, for its territory, for its people - it stands on the path of protection of civilizational values around the world. This was stated by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk during the meeting with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco.
The Speaker stressed the important role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in upholding the international principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country and thanked for the support of Ukraine. He stressed that Ukraine is and will be a supporter of European values and democracy.
Ruslan Stefanchuk drew special attention to the fact that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is conducting a broad dialogue with the parliaments of the world on sanctions against Russia.
"We are talking to parliamentarians, speakers of various parliaments on the maintenance of economic, financial, security sanctions, and on the consideration of personal sanctions against the top leadership of the Russian Federation," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
According to the Speaker of the Parliament, all friendship groups and Ukraine's participation in various inter-parliamentary assemblies have been intensified.
"We also want to intensify the so-called parliamentary dimension of the Crimea Platform this year, and we will be very grateful to the Inter-Parliamentary Union for its assistance. We want to bring to the world examples and facts of human rights violations on the Crimea peninsula - the part of Ukraine," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
