The task of Ukraine and its partners is to help de-escalate the situation caused by Russia through diplomatic means. This was stated by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk during the meeting with a delegation of the European Parliament.
Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked the European Parliament for its consistent support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemnation of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and occupation of Crimea.
"This proves once again the EU's commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of an unprecedented increase in Russian troops on the border with our country. We appreciate the strong signals of the recent Resolution "Situation on the Ukrainian borders and on the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine", which was adopted by the European Parliament in December," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed the importance of creating a comprehensive containment package that would include painful sanctions for the Russian economy, as well as strengthening Ukraine's military resilience. In addition, Ruslan Stefanchuk spoke about the need to strengthen cooperation with the EU in the field of cybersecurity.
"Another component that worries us the most is the issue of energy crisis, energy independence of Ukraine. Of course, this is due to Nord Stream-2. When there is economic interest on some scales and security and peace in Europe on others, the right decision must be made," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine thanked the EU and the European Parliament for their support of the Crimea Platform and for their willingness to participate in its work to strengthen the policy of non-recognition of the temporary occupation of Crimea. He stressed that it is important for Ukraine to keep the issue of occupation of Crimea on the agenda of the European Parliament.
