Neither the Ukrainian government nor the Ukrainian people will give up their sovereignty and the right to freely choose security alliances. This was stated by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk during the meeting with representatives of the Atlantic Council.
"Ukraine demands that no one interfere in its internal affairs and impose certain prohibitions on us in determining our future, joining certain unions. This is our sovereign right," the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed.
According to him, a new challenge for Ukraine is cyber threats. Ruslan Stefanchuk reported on cyberattacks on 70 websites of central and local authorities.
In his opinion, the best response to provocations from the Russian Federation is to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine drew the attention of the representatives of the Atlantic Council to the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
He assured the representatives of the Atlantic Council that the Parliament is ready for the development of any events that may take place in Ukraine.
"We are absolutely ready for further strengthening of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and increasing the budget support of the Ukrainian army. The Parliament of Ukraine is working on this. In addition, we are establishing an inter-parliamentary dialogue with different countries to work together in unison, "Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted the active inter-parliamentary cooperation of Ukraine with Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and other European countries.
"In addition, we continue to work on the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Crimean Platform. We are grateful for the active support of the United States in this initiative. Today our task is to make the Crimea Platform effective and efficient," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
