Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk at the International Anti-Corruption Forum "Kleptocracy and Illegal Financial Flows" spoke about the main legislative initiatives to combat illegal financial flows.
"First of all, we must adopt in general the law "On the principles of state anti-corruption policy for 2021-2025." I hope that we are accumulating all efforts in the Parliament of Ukraine to adopt this important normative legal act in the near future," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
According to him, the legal framework of the State Bureau of Investigation also needs to be improved.
According to him, another bill to be considered by the Parliament of Ukraine is on Amendments to the Law on the Prosecutor's Office to strengthen the functional independence of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, improve the procedure for selecting the Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and introduction of external performance audit.
"We will also focus on improving the legislation on combating money laundering, ensuring transparency of information about beneficial owners (controllers) of enterprises, strengthening banking supervision over risky transactions," said the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine.
Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that some steps will be taken in the field of democracy, which is the defining direction of the program of the President of Ukraine.
"In particular, we want to expand the participation of citizens in the administration of justice. There is currently a discussion about the introduction of justices of the peace, which will be formed directly by the community to hear small and insignificant cases. And also to improve the structure of the jury trial," the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine added.
In addition, the issue of criminalization of smuggling of goods and excisable goods, inaccurate declaration of goods is considered. Ruslan Stefanchuk also reminded that work on the Legislative Work Plan of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for 2022 is underway, where a significant place will be given to issues that prevent or significantly reduce the impact of corruption on the economy and politics.
