“130 parliamentary delegations from all over the world are taking part in this year's Conference. All these meetings and discussions are necessary to promote parliamentarism and mobilize national parliaments to create future changes,” said Olena Kondratiuk, commenting on the start of the Conference.
She clarified that the participants of the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, in particular, discuss overcoming the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, achieving sustainable development, combating poverty, ensuring the well-being of people through economic recovery.
According to the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, the topic of the Conference, where Ukraine is a recognized leader in progress in the Post-Soviet space, is the political and economic participation of women, gender equality and non-discrimination on the basis of sex.
In the end of the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments is expected to adopt the joint Resolution ‘Parliamentary Leadership for a More Effective Multilateralism that Brings Peace and Sustainable Development to the People and the Planet’.
During the Conference, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk will also have a series of bilateral working meetings with the leadership of the parliaments of Georgia, Poland, Denmark, Lithuania, Great Britain, Croatia and the leaders of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
