The greatest manifestation of respect for the Constitution of Ukraine is the observance of its provisions by every citizen, because the law is one for all. This was stated by Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov during the solemn sitting of the Parliament on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Day of the Constitution of Ukraine.
Dmytro Razumkov noted that the adoption of the Basic Law 25 years ago provided the "road map" for the democratic development of Ukraine. He stressed that the Constitution endowed and approved the rights and freedoms of citizens.
He noted the importance of adhering to these values. "If we do not follow them, it will not be Ukraine that we know. More precisely - not Ukraine at all. Because our land is inseparable from freedom, democracy, the rule of law and humanity," Dmytro Razumkov stressed.
The Speaker also added that the Basic Law should serve as a guide for the Ukrainian government to always work for the interests of the country for the sake of the Ukrainian people, its future and the state.
According to Dmytro Razumkov, the Constitution enshrines the rights for which Ukrainians have fought as a nation for many years.
According to him, the current stage of constitutional modernization of Ukraine is characterized by deepening the rule of law, improving the existing system of public administration and the development of local self-government and territorial organization.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada reminded that in 2019, important changes were made to the Constitution - Ukraine's strategic course to the European Union and NATO was established.
He also noted that an integral part of the constitutional modernization of Ukraine is the development of local self-government, completion and full implementation of decentralization reform.
He stressed that the issues of improving and modernizing the Basic Law remain relevant for the Parliament, and the result will depend on joint work.
"The Parliament is a model of society that represents our country. And if we want the rapid development of the state, we must seek political consensus here within the Verkhovna Rada. And not only to strive, but also to achieve it," Dmytro Razumkov said.
