Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov is convinced that the checkpoints on the administrative border with the occupied Crimea are temporary and will not be needed after the return of the Ukrainian territories.
He stated this during the visit with the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Victoria Chmilite-Nielsen to the Chonhar and Kalanchak checkpoints on the administrative border with the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.
Dmytro Razumkov and Victoria Chmilite-Nielsen got acquainted with the procedure of border and customs control at the administrative border, as well as with the work of the service area, the conditions of providing administrative services at the EECP.
"There are good enough conditions for the staff to work normally, and comfortable conditions for people moving from the temporarily occupied Crimea to the territory of Ukraine," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said. He added that both checkpoints were reconstructed in 2019 and currently do not require global modifications.
According to the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, the return of Ukrainian territories depends on the efforts of anyone who can contribute to the deoccupation of Crimea, which will turn the EECP into a museum in the future.
"Returning our territories is not an easy task. This is the painstaking work of everyone in their place: the journalist, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, our international partners, the leaders of other states that support and help Ukraine, including sanctions," said Dmytro Razumkov. He is convinced that sanctions are a strong argument and an effective mechanism in the fight against the occupation of Crimea and in the war in the East of Ukraine.
The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament thanked Lithuania and other Baltic countries for their friendly support of Ukraine on international platforms, in particular in the PACE, OSCE, NATO, as well as within the Baltic Plus group.
"I am glad to have the opportunity to visit these checkpoints with a colleague today. But I really hope that after a while its will not be needed. And we will be able to go to the Ukrainian Crimea again and live in the peaceful state," Dmytro Razumkov stressed.
In turn, Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Victoria Chmilite-Nielsen once again reaffirmed her continued support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and assured that Lithuania would never recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea.
