Ukraine is ready to develop Inter-Parliamentary cooperation with Italy. This was stated by Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov during the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine Pier Francesco Zazo, and noted that our country is interested in resuming the full-fledged political dialogue at the highest level.
"We are ready to deepen relations between the Ukrainian
parliament and our partners from Italy. Both with the Senate and with the
Chamber of Deputies," Dmytro Razumkov said, adding that it is also
important to intensify cooperation at the level of friendship groups.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the process of implementing reforms in our country. "Reforms in Ukraine continue. It does not pass quickly, but, nevertheless, the main thing - quality. We have already managed to do something, something is still being implemented," said the Speaker of the Parliament. He added that the bill to help implement land reform is currently being considered in the Verkhovna Rada. At the same time, judicial and anti-corruption reforms continue.
The situation in Eastern Ukraine was also discussed. The
Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada thanked Italy for its unwavering position on
the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state. "A principled
position on sanctions pressure is very important for us. As practice has shown,
this mechanism is one of the most effective. It is not fast, but we see its
effectiveness," Dmytro Razumkov said, adding that the situation in the
temporarily occupied Crimea, in particular with regard to human rights
violations, continues to deteriorate.
In addition, the issue of European integration and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of our state was raised during the discussion. "Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO are not just words, but the principles enshrined in the Constitution of our state. Therefore, we count on the support of Italy," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada remarked.
At the same time, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Ukraine Pier Francesco Zazo noted that in order to establish effective Inter-Parliamentary relations, it would be expedient to establish direct communication between the Parliaments of our countries. In addition, Ukraine and Italy, he said, have significant economic potential. At the same time, it is important for Italy to continue the process of reforms in our country, in particular, the reform of the judiciary, because it will attract Italian investment.
