Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk held the working meeting with Vice Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Malgorzata Gosiewska.

Opening the meeting, Olena Kondratiuk thanked Malgorzata Gosiewska for her visit to the demarcation line in Donetsk region, which took place together with Vice Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Paulus Saidargas and First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk. According to Olena Kondratiuk, such a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, which has been opposing the Russian aggressor for more than seven years, defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, commands respect.

"Against the background of Russia's escalation, Poland has once again demonstrated that it is a reliable ally of Ukraine in the international arena. We are sincerely grateful for Poland's quick reaction to the concentration of Russian troops on Ukraine's borders. This approach corresponds to the high level of strategic partnership between Ukraine and Poland," said the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.

According to her, it is necessary to deepen mutual strategic partnership, as well as unity and solidarity against the background of growing security threats in Europe, the source of which is the Russian Federation. In particular, on the practical implementation of Ukraine's course in the EU and NATO, which is clearly defined by Ukrainian society.

"Ukraine counts on Poland's support in obtaining the real Action Plan for NATO membership in the near future," Olena Kondratiuk stressed.

Separately, the parties touched upon the construction of the Nord Stream-2.

"I am convinced that this Russian project is not only a threat to Ukraine, but also to Poland," said the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine. This opinion was also supported by Malgorzata Gosiewska. According to her, the Polish authorities have always strongly opposed Nord Stream-2 and take a clear position that this is a harmful project for both Poland and Ukraine.

In addition, the issue of cooperation and involvement of Ukraine in the joint elaboration with Poland of the priorities of the country's Heading in the OSCE, which will take place in 2022, was discussed.

"Ukraine will certainly play an important role in our Heading in the OSCE. We will pay a lot of attention to the issues that concern Ukraine and are open to your proposals," said Malgorzata Gosiewska, Vice-Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.

The participants of the meeting also discussed cooperation within the framework of inter-parliamentary assemblies and inter-parliamentary groups, in particular, the possibility of holding the next meeting of the Ukraine-Poland Parliamentary Assembly in Warsaw.

"As the Chairperson of the Ukrainian part of the Parliamentary Assembly, I pay special attention to this cooperation. Therefore, I propose to our parliaments to unite as much as possible and focus their efforts on maintaining and strengthening sanctions against Russia and formation of the broader coalition of countries to deter Russian aggression, as well as to continue a fruitful dialogue on other topical issues of our interstate cooperation," said Olena Kondratiuk.
