Home rule reforms and problems in establishing new territorial communities were the two main issues of the Verkhovna Rada Chairman, Andrii Parubii, Monday working visit to Drohobych, Lviv region. The Chairman met representatives of the regional authorities at the Drohobych City Council.
In a comment to the “Rada” TV-channel A. Parubii stated that reshaping local self-governance was of the priorities for the Verkhovna Rada.
“Last week we were able to adopt three vital laws that stimulate and allow a new step towards the development of the local self-governance. It is important that while I am visiting my homeland, to hear and see how the implementation of these laws will tackle the problem of establishing new territorial communities, what the related issues are and how these laws are vital to decision-making process,” said. A. Parubii.
“It is crucial for me to learn about the needed stages that can contribute to establishing and uniting new territorial communities,” concluded the Chairman.
The meeting also touched upon effective owners, a broader dialog with suburban villages, and – mainly - merging villages located in the separate districts of the region (oblast). According to Parubii, a respective law is disputable but is already on the table at the Verkhovna Rada. “Adopting this law would allow for at least five new communities in the Lviv region, that today are located in different districts, to unite,” stated he. The Verkhovna Rada Chairman stressed that he got to hear “the problems that are the most important to solve” and stated that during the nearest plenary week he will include another set of draft laws on self-governance into agenda “in order to have a decision on them and allow for the self-governance reform to progress efficiently”. “I believe this is one of the most reforms for Ukraine now,” concluded Parubii.
