On Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Heraschenko took part in flower-laying ceremony at the Bykivnia Graves National Historic Memorial.

"We have commemorated the victims of the totalitarian regime, laid flowers and lit candles in Bykivnia forest near the Memorial to tortured Ukrainians and the Poles," Heraschenko has written on Facebook.

She said: "The Soviet Empire killed huge number of good people, and unfortunately, its successor continues killings!" Heraschenko called for holding further decommunization in the country: "Our generation must finalize the process of the decommunization, the process of restoration of the historical truth and justice."

She said: "The most important is to block any attempts of the Russian Federation, as the successor of the soviet totalitarian regime, to ruin our European future."

Other participants in the ceremony were President Petro Poroshenko, Kyiv city mayor / chairperson of the Kyiv city state administration Vitali Klitschko, First Vice Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv, members of the Ukrainian Government, people's deputies, and Ukrainian citizens.

The attendees observed a moment of silence in memory of victims of communist repressions.
