Opening the Friday plenary meeting, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii congratulated Ukrainian singer Jamala on her reaching the final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Parubii reminded that "pain from sufferings of the Crimean Tatar people sung about by Jamala is familiar to many Ukrainians, who, as well as the Crimean Tatars in 1944, suffered relocation and political repressions."

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada expressed hope that Eurovision will take place in Kyiv in 2017.

"I'd like to remind you, dear colleagues, that the Eurovision's final will take place on May 14. Let's root for our singer Jamala," Parubii said.
