ON FRIDAY, 18 DECEMBER THE PLENARY WEEK OF THE VERKHOVNA RADA OF UKRAINE OF THE SIXTH CONVOCATION WAS CONCLUDED
At the beginning of the morning sitting the parliamentarians honored Ivan Spodarenko, the People´s Deputy of Ukraine who passed away on 17 December.
Oleksandr Lavrynovych, the First Vice-Chairman read the Deputies´ inquiries.
The Verkhovna Rada upheld the petition of certain deputies regarding the necessity of immediate presidential direction to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the issue on dismissal of Volodymyr Stelmakh from the office of the National Bank of Ukraine Chairman.
Party of regions pointed out the attention of the falsification attempts regarding the presidential campaign in several regions.
Party of regions addressed all the participants of the electoral process in order "not to take part in any provocations and falsifications."
In respond to the Party of Regions appeal, A. Kozhemiakin, Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc representative addressed the People´s Deputies with the request to scrutinize the Bill on amendments to the Law "On Election of the President of Ukraine" (re the falsification prevention.)
Three bills on amendments to the Law "On Reestablishing Debtor Solvency or Recognition as a Bankrupt" (re the prohibition on bankrupt adjunction of the coal-mining enterprises.) were excluded from consideration.
Oleksandr Peklushenko presented the Report of the Temporary Inquiry Panel on Monitoring of the Natural Calamity Consequences Liquidation on 23-27 July 2008 in Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Ternopil and Chernivtsi regions.
The chairman of the committee briefed on impropriate financing of the program on natural calamity consequences liquidation.
As a result of the scrutiny, the Verkhovna Rada failed to uphold the resolution draft ("in favor" - 189 votes)
Yulia Tymoshenko declaration on the necessity of the formation of the Temporary Inquiry Panel on the investigation of the case on appropriation by Viktor Yanukovych of 140 hectare of state property in "Mezhyhiria" was presented by Volodymyr Bondarenko.
The People´s Deputies have not scrutinized the next agenda issue, i.e. the Draft Resolution on Amendments to the Resolution of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "On setting up a Temporary Inquiry Panel of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to inspect the Activity of the National Bank of Ukraine in the Period of Financial Crisis", since the work of the Panel had been terminated.
People´s Deputy V.Topolov withdrew the Draft Resolution on the Changes in the Composition of the Temporary Inquiry Panel of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to investigate the Law Abidance during the Reconstruction of the "Olimpiyskiy" Sport Complex. The Draft Resolution was withdrawn from scrutiny.
People´s Deputy Hanna Herman presented the Draft Resolution "On setting up a Temporary Inquiry Panel of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in charge of investigating the Intrusion of the Public Authority and Local Self-Government Bodies and their Officials into the Activity of Mass Media".
The People´s Deputies upheld the idea of setting up the Panel. They dwelled upon the cases of pressure exerted on the mass media representatives by the politicians and officials.
The Verkhovna Rada set up a Temporary Inquiry Panel by 277 votes.
At the end of the plenary meeting, the People´s Deputies presented their announcements, motions and appeals.
Then the morning plenary meeting was adjourned.
The next plenary meeting of the fifth session will be held on Tuesday, 22 December.
